An explosion ignited by flour dust at America’s largest flour mill - our Washburn “A” mill in Minneapolis - claimed 18 lives in 1878. It led us, and our competitors, to pursue safer milling technology in those early days. A tribute to the victims of the explosion is in a Minneapolis cemetery.
